Nous avons le plaisir de vous inviter au vernissage de l'exposition de Jacques Fivel le jeudi 19 mars à partir de 18h et au lancement de son livre, ainsi q'une édition très spéciale à 25 exemplaires.
Ce livre d'artiste a été créé pour l'exposition « IS IT FOR REAL ? » qui s'est tenue à Alres l'été dernier. Jacques Fivel est un artiste appartenant à la famille des Copy Art ; très tôt, il s'est intéressé au photocopieur, le détournant de sa fonction première de reproduction pour l'utiliser afin de créer ses œuvres in situ. À la fin des années 1980, il a découvert un appareil très inhabituel : le CHINON DCM-206, l'un des premiers fax photographiques. Bien qu'il ressemblait à un rétroprojecteur, cet appareil ne projetait pas, mais enregistrait les mouvements passant devant lui pendant une durée de dix secondes à l'aide de son optique et de son faisceau lumineux, puis extrayait un fax de longueur variable de son rouleau, en fonction des informations capturées.
Les épreuves thermoformées ont servi de matrice à l'artiste, qui les a ensuite photocopiées pour les conserver et, surtout, pour expérimenter le passage de plusieurs couches de couleur et des effets de manipulation sur le photocopieur.
Méticuleusement conservées et stockées à l'abri de la lumière pendant plus de 40 ans, certaines de ces télécopies sont encore visibles, et la magie de leur conservation les unes sur les autres a permis au temps d'ajouter sa propre touche artistique en transférant une partie des images d’un fax sur à l'autre grâce au processus d'impression thermique et à la finesse du papier.
Une séance photo mettant en scène deux modèles nus posant sur un superbe fauteuil design a été redécouverte et magnifiée par le passage du temps grâce à ces superpositions naturelles.
Nous avons décidé d'inclure l'un des fax de cette magnifique série dans l'édition spéciale de 25 exemplaires, qui sera insérée dans un étui protecteur en carton avec impression thermique permettant à l'image reproduite de s'estomper ou de réapparaître en fonction de la chaleur. Le livre signé et numéroté sera également inclus. Les fax étant uniques, il est important de venir les choisir, mais je me ferai un plaisir d'envoyer des visuels sur demande.

This artist's book was created for the exhibition ‘IS IT FOR REAL?’ held in Alres last summer. Jacques Fivel is an artist belonging to the Copy Art family; very early on, he became interested in the photocopier, diverting it from its primary function of reproduction to use it to create his works in situ. In the late 1980s, he discovered a very unusual device: the CHINON DCM-206, one of the first photographic fax machines made in Japan. Although it resembled an overhead projector, this device did not project, but rather recorded movements passing in front of it for a period of ten seconds using its optics and light beam, then extracted a fax of variable length from its roll, depending on the information captured.
The thermoformed proofs served as a matrix for the artist, who then photocopied them for preservation and, above all, to experiment with the passage of several layers of colour and the effects of manipulation on the photocopier.
Meticulously preserved and stored away from light for over 40 years, some of these faxes are still visible, and the magic of their preservation on top of each other has allowed time to add its own artistic touch by transferring part of the images from one fax to another through the thermal printing process and the finess of the paper.
A photo shoot featuring two nude models posing on a stunning designer armchair has been rediscovered and magnified by the passage of time thanks to these natural overlays.
We have decided to include one of the faxes from this magnificent series in the special edition of 25 copies, which will be inserted in a protective cardboard case with thermal printing allowing the reproduced image to fade or reappear depending on the heat. The signed and numbered book will also be included. As the faxes are unique, it is important to come and choose them, but I will be happy to send visuals on request.
