Peter Zupnik does staged photography only in retrospect-he paints on the prints. He says that he does this "because what I imagined when taking the picture could not be photographed-it does not exist." He works slowly, as all prints are originals. He seems to be tapping into the secret life of objects; what they do when we are not looking. Zupnik, like most of the artists here, has a childlike belief that anything is possible, and just because it has never happened before does not mean that today can't be different. He claims to be anxious "to be addressed by simple things." He is looking for energy radiated by objects, often manifested as wind or fire, and this is what he adds to the picture. He has lived in Paris since 1994.
