Best known for his fashion photography, Irving Penn’s repertoire also includes portraits of creative greats, still lifes and ethnographic photographs from around the world. For his long-term project Worlds in a Small Room he used a portable studio lit with natural light only. This setup allowed him to stage the locals in front of his infamous stained canvas while still close to their daily life.
