The Evros River separates Greece from Turkey. This region has always been a cultural crossroads. The meeting point between East and West. Today, it is once again at a crossroads. It is one of the main gateways for migrants trying to reach Europe. Thousands still attempt the crossing every year, in the hope of a better future.
How do you talk about a subject as vast and complex, as rooted in harsh daily reality as it is in fantasy? EVROS was born of this reflection. Not to try to understand everything, but rather to feel and make people feel, via several stories and objects forming a few pieces of a larger puzzle. Not simply documenting events, but rather creating an aesthetic and emotional experience that goes beyond the bare facts.
This artist's book is made up of 177 photos and texts from a 6-month documentary photographic fieldwork in Greece and Turkey, including sharing the daily life of a group of migrants attempting to cross the river to Europe. Divided into 8 objects within the box, it offers a non-linear, physical, and tactile narrative. Each fold, each texture is an invitation to exploration and discovery.
The box and each of the objects are entirely handmade.
